Hello, Just a Texas girl here and when I read a reply that you [ken333] posted I felt bad for you. You see I take ms contin too and I take IR Morphine for the breakthrough pain and I was only drugged or drunk from it the first few weeks. The timed released type doesnt have a "high". I am pain free[almost] but not high. That is why they made timed release morphine. This is fist time for me to be on the extended relief morphine. I have been on the duragesic patch and it worked like the ms contin, it just got to expensive because of my insurance co-pay being 10% of the cost of the drug. I do get sleepy and take a nap every day but do not know if it is because of my medicine or combanation of illness and meds and the fact I did not sleep well the night before. take care gidget

Hi Gidget,
Thats what makes RSD so interesting as MsContin/other drugs doesn't work like that for me. I've only dreamed about being pain free. I have done several experiments to see if any amount would let me be even close to pain free. While in the hospital I was given a morphine pump to where I could medicate my self at 10mg morfhine every 10 minutes plus 60mg/day MsContin and I used that pump every chance I could get. Just didn't help one bit in fact I quit using the pump on my own after several days on the pump and didn't notice very much difference.
Now sleeping! I've had the schedule of awake for 2 to 3days then sleep one for so long it seams normal. No naps in 10yrs.
I'm glad you found that something works for your RSD. Not many have.
Grain acolhol seams to work some what but bot for very long but I do notice some relief. I hadn't drank for 15yrs before my accident so it may have been just something new to my system.
I never have felt "high" while on the IV morphine nor the MsContin. I've asked a few in our support group about the same and got mixed reactions. My mouth dries out and my tongue gets thick but no high.
Every year for a month I quit taking all my meds. That lets my body reset itself to where I don't have to incease my doseages. That has worked well for me as I was starting to take more to compensate for the pain.
My Doctor told me about a new procedure using liquid Baclofen in a pump of about 50mg. Anyone tried that?
